When Ted Ganger performed his encore, the circle was closed. His song "Sing It Out" is meant to encourage other musicians to compose themselves. The singer and songwriter had previously told the audience of having struggled for a long time before he began to write songs, because he had been too intimidated by the thought. In the meantime Ganger has written 86 songs, 15 of which the American presented on Friday evening in the foyer of the Martini Park theater. His pieces, narratives drawn from everyday life, are a combination of singing and piano playing, served up with humor.
Ganger's musical grasp is impressive. And he has developed his own style from existing directions and forms. The fundamental idea is based on the art song à la Schubert; beyond that he is also influenced by Impressionism. A bit of Béla Bartók can be heard, as well as elements of jazz. At times, his musical language reminds one of American musicals, but Ganger finds unexpected turns of harmony to create freshness, spirit and modernness. From a compositional point of view, every song is a masterpiece.
Ganger, who is also a vocal coach at the State Theater, has perfect command of the piano. The fact that the songwriter is not a professional singer is insignificant - the occasional lapse makes his songs sound all the more authentic.

Als Ted Ganger die Zugabe vortrug, schloss sich der Kreis. Sein Song „Sing It Out“ soll andere Musiker ermutigen, selbst zu komponieren. Zuvor erklärte der Singer und Songwriter dem Publikum, er habe lange mit sich gerungen, Songs zu schreiben, weil er eine zu große Ehrfurcht davor gehabt habe. Mittlerweile hat Ganger 86 Songs geschaffen, 15 davon präsentierte der gebürtige Amerikaner am Freitagabend im Foyer des Martiniparks. Seine Stücke, Erzählungen aus dem Alltag, sind eine Kombination aus Gesang und Klavierspiel, mit Humor versehen.
Das musikalische Verständnis Gangers ist beeindruckend. Er entwickelt aus bestehenden Richtungen und Formen seinen Stil. Seine Grundidee orientiert sich am Schubert’schen Kunstlied, darüber hinaus lässt er sich vom Impressionismus beeinflussen. Ein bisschen Belá Bartók ist zu hören, ebenso Jazzelemente. Seine Musiksprache erinnert zeitweise an amerikanische Musicals, doch findet Ganger unverbrauchte Harmonie-Kniffe und erzeugt so Frische, Temperament und Modernität. Aus kompositorischer Sicht ist jeder Song ein Meisterwerk.
Das Klavierspiel beherrscht Ganger, der auch Korrepetitor am Staatstheater ist, perfekt. Dass der Songwriter kein professioneller Sänger ist, ist nicht von Bedeutung. Der ein oder andere Lapsus machte seine Stücke authentisch.
